How a merchant account can work for you? |
|
Even in the wake of the global recession, online shopping is growing. Internet orders were up by 19 percent in 2009, according to the e-Retail Sales Index. Why are consumers looking for household savers That's easy, the price. The average online business can offer discounts of up to 30 percent off retail prices. They accomplish this awesome feat by cutting costs to the bone. How? To begin with, most virtual businesses do not actually own, rent, or lease a brick and mortar building. This means that they do not have to pay the costs associated with running a traditional retail business. No rent, no electricity, no insurance, no large staff. As a result, they can sell their goods at much lower prices and still make a profit. Of course, it isn't quite as easy as it sounds. In order to sell goods on the internet, a business must obtain an online merchant account. These accounts are backed by banks and other financial institutions whose job it is to review and validate each credit or debit card transaction. (more...) The number of consumers who do their shopping online has increased each year since the advent of the internet. Unfortunately, so has online crime. The most common virtual crime is identity theft. Identity theft occurs when a hacker intercepts your financial information and uses it for his own purposes. It is estimated that over 100,000 UK residents are victims of the crime each year. How can you protect yourself? The easiest way to ensure a smooth transaction is to only do business with companies you know. Of course, this is not always possible. After all, the thing most online shoppers enjoy most is comparison shopping, which means visiting new sites. If this is how you do your shopping, we strongly suggest that you start out small with an inexpensive order until the company proves trustworthy. It is also important to confirm a business address or at least a phone number before you buy. If a company does not offer any kind of live customer service, it is probably best to move on. Trying to return damaged items or Personalised GIfts is incredibly difficult when a business does not have a valid contact number. (more...) More than 100,000 people were victims of identity theft in the UK last year. A growing number of these crimes are committed online by hackers. Contrary to popular belief, most hackers and internet thieves are not geniuses. They don't spend their time trying to access supposedly impregnable websites. Rather, they seek out unprotected sites and wait for an unsuspecting customer to make a payment. They then intercept this payment and voila! They have access to a credit or a debit card account. It is fast, it is easy, and it is increasingly common. In this brief article we will discuss a few simple tips that will keep you from becoming another statistic. They may seem obvious, but trust us, they work when you shop for interior design products. Where to start? It stands to reason that the most secure and reliable websites are the ones that have been around for some time and have earned a reputation for customer service. These companies rely on internet commerce and if there is a problem they will often refund your money no questions asked. If you are new to online shopping, we strongly suggest that you do your shopping on larger, more reputable sites. (more...) It is becoming increasingly important to many of us that our choice of shopping is friendly to the environment and there are many steps that we can take to this end.
Firstly, your choice of transport is very important. Taking the car three miles to buy just a loaf of bread does not help the cause! Try to cycle, walk, or take public transport if possible. And if you do have to take the car try and consolidate your shopping into larger, less frequent trips. Buy natural products where you can. shop for wooden products instead of plastic and make sure that they are eco-certified as being from sustainable sources. Buy cotton over synthetic for your clothes and again check the source if you can. (more...) Flowers are a popular gift for nearly any occasion — birthdays, anniversaries, or funerals. Of course, there are certain dates on the calendar where you absolutely must send flowers or you may be injured by flying objects. Mother's Day and Valentine's Day are the top flower holidays. How do you shop for flowers? In the old days it was easy. You simply stopped at your local florist and picked out a fresh bouquet. But the internet has made things more complicated, as it often does. For one thing, they offer much better deals than the local florist, but since their flowers must be shipped, they are not always as fresh. How do you choose? It really does depend on what you are looking for? If you have time to choose the perfect bouquet, it is best to stop at a local flower shop and select the right arrangement. Florists typically offer a wider selection of fresh flowers that they will prepare for you right in front of you. The price may be a bit higher than online, but the bouquet will be more personal and impressive. (more...) France is the world's number one destination for tourists. Each year, more than seventy million people from around the world come to France to see the sights, taste the food, and take home a few souvenirs. But even if you can't go on the trip, you can have France come to you. In this article we will discuss the most popular French stores nowdays. France is Famous for its food, so it makes perfect sense that one of the top French stores on the internet offers a wide selection of gourmet foods. Dean and Deluca sell dozens of French cheeses, chocolates, coffees, and gift baskets. Second only to Italy in worldwide wine sales, France offers hundreds of different kinds of wine. For a small monthly fee, the French Wine Club is a store that will deliver one bottle of French wine to your door each month. Members are free to request white wines, red wines, or both. What would a trip to France be without a look at the latest in French fashion? La Redoute is a website that offers foreigners a large catalogue of haute couture at affordable prices. (more...) I just love coupons. You know, the money off vouchers that you get from a wide range of places. You can find discount coupons in magazine and papers, on the internet or in in-store promotions. You can find anything from buy-one-get-one-free deals on certain products to discounted meals and Mobile Phone Deals. The trick is to use them wisely and only buy things that you would have bought anyway – otherwise you end up spending more than you would have in the first place. It is no good spending over £30 in a shop to get a free item if you only needed £5 worth of products. In the same way, while it is great to stock up on non-perishable items in order to get a better deal, be careful when it comes to things like fruit and veg. Only too often have I bought more fresh food than I needed to get some free and then had to throw it away. (more...) I must confess that the prospect of a weekend in Rome gives me the 'itchy credit card' syndrome. As much as I love a few days in that wonderful city, I have to face the prospect that my bank account is going to suffer as a result. The problem is, I just love the shopping there! I try to find apartments in Rome which are not too far from the main shopping areas. This means that I can go back on a regular basis to leave my purchases. After all, it gets uncomfortable with too many shopping bags on your shoulder. There is no end of things to buy there. For starters there are the leather goods. Handbags, shoes, belts, you get the picture. The leather products are so incredibly soft and well-fitting, a girl just can't help it! (more...) It is often difficult finding inspiration when looking for gifts for family, friends and loved ones. We have all been there, wandering aimlessly around our local shopping mall or High Street, trying to match the recipient's interests and qualities with the inanimate objects on the shelves. It is generally the case nowadays that people just go out and purchase any required items themselves, especially items such as DVDs and clothing. This makes gift shopping even more difficult. Of course, there are plenty of universal 'fall back' gifts such as chocolates, perfume or aftershave. However, by their nature these gifts are not the most thoughtful. A colourful flower arrangement or bouquet would be well received by mainly female recipients. This can be purchased from any Southampton based florist and be either taken away or, as an extra special touch, can be delivered to the recipient on any chosen day. (more...) The average female resident of the UK spends an incredible 37,000 pounds on her hair over the course of her life, according to a recent survey. She will also invest approximately two full years on washing, styling, colouring, cutting, combing, drying, and straightening her tresses both at home and at the salon. The survey found that the average woman spends more money on home hair care products than she does on visits to the salon. The monthly average broke down as follows: 10 pounds on shampoos and conditions, 14 pounds on styling and colouring products, and 20 pounds at the salon. But more surprising than the monetary commitment was the time the average woman spends on her hair. Men spend an average of about ten minutes drying, styling, combing, or cutting their hair. Women spend 41 minutes on their hair each and every day! What about Headline Hair? (more...) Contrary to popular belief, Valentine's Day was not created by the greeting card companies. There actually was a Christian martyr who was executed because he defied an emperor. According to popular legend, Valentine was a priest who refused to abide by an edict that said that young men could not be married if they were in the military. When it was discovered that Valentine was marrying young lovers secretly, Emperor Claudius II had him arrested, thrown in jail, and executed. Valentine was canonised in the 5th century AD when he became the patron saint of romantic love. Since then, lovers have been exchanging small tokens and gifts on the supposed day of his death, February 14th. For some reason, the holiday became extremely popular in England in the 19th century. Young lovers would exchange letters, cards and sweets. To this day, Valentines is one of the most popular holidays in the UK. About half of all residents spend money on gifts. The latest estimate is 1.5 billion pounds on cards, chocolates, and flowers in Winchester. (more...) Have you ever gone food or clothes shopping in your old clothes, with your hair scraped back and no make-up? We have all been there and we jokingly say to family that we hope we do not bump in to Robert De Niro or Keanu Reeves. Well, in fact, meeting a potential new partner when you are shopping does happen to quite a few people! If you have tried everything from speed dating to singles sites.org and have still had no luck, then maybe, just maybe, you will one day bump into your true love at the fruit and veg. aisle of your local store. It sounds unlikely, I know, but it does happen from time to time. People are often relaxed while out shopping, moseying along the aisles, wondering which new product to try or looking for bargains. In theory this should be an ideal place to meet a new man! And at least if you find him in a supermarket you know that he is semi house trained! (more...) If you are shopping for kids, it can be difficult to know what to get them as everything seems so high-tech even for children now. However, with a little thought, there are many gifts which are educational and more traditional and which need not cost too much. Kids are by nature curious about themselves and their progress and gifts such as a Growth Chart is usually welcome as they can see how much they have grown – a real incentive to eat their veg! They love anything that makes them feel like a grown up little girl or boy. Books too are a great gift as it encourages them to learn, and my personal favourites are those which teach the children about nature or history as well as helping them to read. This way they get a good overall education on the world in which they are growing up. (more...) Out of the many exciting words in the world, the best one has to be - shopping.
